Wedding details are an important part of every wedding story.  Of course, the beautiful bridal portraits and photojournalistic moments of the ceremony can capture the emotion and energy of your day, but a beautiful photographed detail shot can be a work of art and document the special character of your wedding.

Wedding details are also an artistic way for your wedding to look like the pages of an “editorial” magazine spread and are essential in creating extraordinary album design. We know these little details have been meticulously planned and should be photographed with the same care and artistry as the family portraits.  Even a simple food shot can be a way to bring all your senses back to the wedding day?  Here are a few examples of individual and composite images from some of our favorite past weddings details.

Since we are perfectionists, we are also experimenting with some new films in order to give our wedding images a look we feel may only be possible with specific film.  For example, overexposure on film creates beautiful skin tones with a “dreamy” look that is not possible in digital because the highlights do not photograph with the same tonality.  Check back in a few months when we plan on publishing for our tests shots and see if you can tell the difference.

Best Charleston wedding and bridal photographers

Susan and Rob tied the knot last month in a beautiful ceremony on the Charleston Harbor!  They met while in college at Clemson, have family in Charleston and had one specific idea for the wedding-they wanted to be married on the water.  We were excited to add The Cottages,  to our list of Charleston favorites.  What a beautiful and unique venue with majestic views of downtown Charleston from across the harbor.

We had so much fun spending the afternoon with both families and capturing all the emotion and happiness of the day…there were so many great dancing shots!!!

All we can say is WOW!  Sloan and Brandon had one of the most beautiful wedding on the grounds of Middleton Plantation.  They travelled all the way from “Down Under” and had family in from all parts of the US to share in their day.

This was one of the most amazing and unusual portraits sessions and events as so you will see in the photos which include rainbows and peacocks!  Apparently this guy wanted to share in the fun as he followed us around during the bridal party photos?  We did try and get him to open his feathers, but apparently that only happens to impress “the ladies”?

There were so many unique and beautiful photos from the day, we had a hard time choosing which to feature on the blog.  We hope you enjoy our artistic images from the day and are looking forward to our next wedding or bridal shoot at this stunning historical venue!

Isle of Palms Wedding Photographer

We always love an opportunity to photograph weddings in unique locations, so Mary and Alex’s wedding  was certainly “food for the soul”.  After hearing all the details about them, we couldn’t wait for May 18th to photograph their beautiful event on the “off the beaten” path location of Goat Island.

This secluded wedding venue is only accesible by a short boat trip from the Isle Of Palms marina. It was first settled in 1931 by the Halloway family who moved to the island in order to escape the busy Charleston lifestyle.  Yes, there are goats which still roam the island and are well taken care of by the locals.

The island also had such an important significance to Mary, who grew up spending summer days on the island and continues to have strong family ties to the beautiful, idyllic venue.

The ceremony took place at low-tide on a sand bar and was one of the most beautiful “natural” places for a wedding in recent memory!  Those who know us also are aware that we are huge dog lovers, and they wanted to include their pup in the wedding as he was a big reason they met and fell in love.

However, in addition to the epic location, the best part of our job is capturing the joy, emotion and love evident in the photos from the day.  We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend the day with Mary, Alex, all their family, friends and create these unique and beautiful photographs for them to share with their grandchildren!

A special thanks to Dianne for the hospitality, boat ride and for making us feel at home!

We also want to give a big “Thank You” to Kelly Kicklighter from “andsomethingblue” for all her beautiful and amazing wedding planning!  Kelly can be reached at 843.425.1317 should you need an amazing “day of planner”.

Nina met Ryan met in the “laid-back” surf town of Nosara, Costa Rica.  She was a art curator from New York City looking for the simple life and he was a surfer and real estate investor in this off the beaten path paradise.  Once on the island, Nina started her own wedding planning business.  They have since purchased a piece of land in Northern Columbia and are pursuing their dream of developing an organic, natural resort specializing in unique and “green” weddings.

We knew after hearing about their wedding plans it was going to amazing to photograph!  I met up with them the week before the event as Nina and Ryan were busy putting the finishing touches on the decor including: antler chandelier, hand painted signs, a vintage lounge.  Almost every detail was created and hand-made including a cake plate that was painted and glued together using a martini glass for the base.

Ryan put the “Southern”finishing touches on his suit choosing a feather bowtie from local Charleston designer Brackish Bowties.  These are the coolest accessories for grooms and Ryan decided on the Carolina Copper which is noted by the designer to “guarantee to garner you a heaping amount of attention, with an extra dose of wow factor”.  These ties ROCK!

Charleston is well known for its wedding venues, but Old Wide Awake Plantation is one of the most famous as it was the site of Reese Witherspoon’s wedding. Located just down the dirt road is a hidden gem that Nina fell in love with the minute see saw it called Wide Awake Park; I had no idea she would transform it into the beautiful wedding venue you see in the photos, but with her eye and experience it was the perfect venue.  As always, I scouted the location well in advance and knew every spot for the best photographs.

The wedding was beautiful and after seeing the style, I knew our post-wedding day shoot at Cypress Gardens was going to look like a Vanity Fair magazine spread.  I had a vision for the shoot since last year and went about planning to create the over the head rowboat photograph.  Of course, Nina came with her finishing touches and hand-painted “Just Married” sign for the back of the boat-NICE!

We hope you enjoy the photos as much as we did creating them and spending the day with Nina, Ryan and their families.

Savannah and Scott were married in one of the most beautiful and unique ceremonies in recent memory.  The land is off the beaten path and has been in their family for generations.  They were concerned after meeting with a conservation expert that the house would not stand long enough for their wedding.  In order to keep the structure intact, they were quoted approximately 1.5 million dollars to brace the walls…thankfully, it stayed upright and provided a beautiful backdrop for their wedding.

We had a great time with everyone and are looking forward to exploring some of the amazing locations in and around the island.   If you are heading out to Edisto, I recommend stopping by the Geechie Boy Mill.  They have refurbished an original mill and are known for supplying grains, including grits, to all of the famous Charleston Restaurants including the Husk, which was voted 2011 “Best Restaurant in America” by Bon Appetite magazine.

We also plan for any special requests that will make our wedding photo’s something special and jumped at the chance to include images from where Scott proposed near their home in Old Mount Pleasant- The Old Pitt Street Bridge.  We wish Savannah and Scott an extraordinary 2013 and know they will be able to show their kids the beautiful photographs of their amazing wedding and the still standing Brickhouse Plantation.
